Made-to-Measure
Roman Blinds

Roman Blinds are smart, elegant and ideally suited to the tall narrow windows so often found in period houses.

All our roman blinds are handmade in our own workrooms with either cotton sateen or blackout lining; interlining is also available.  They are supplied with metal base bars, glass fibre fold rods, wooden batten, cleat and acorn,  ready strung for your to fit.
Chain link blind tracks can be supplied as an alternative to our standard fabric covered wooden batten.

ROMAN BLINDS

Roman Blinds can be fitted inside the window recess, close to the glass or outside the window recess covering the whole area.

They can stand alone or be fitted with curtains, in either the same fabric or a co-ordinating design.

Pro's:
- elegant in tall narrow windows where roller blinds would be lost.
- great where space is limited.
- very fashionable at the moment.

Roman Blinds can be lined with either cotton sateen or blackout lining; interlining is also an option.

Maximum width:  2m

LININGS

Curtains for Kids offers two linings;
- a deluxe cotton sateen, cream in colour   and
- a 3 pass blackout lining, ivory in colour - our most popular lining

Our blackout lining is ivory on both sides, the black part is sandwiched in the middle so you cannot see it.

If you windows are draughty you might like to consider having your blind interlined.

GUIDANCE FOR MEASURING

First - decide where your blind is to hang, inside or outside of the recess.

If fitting inside the window recess
We need to know the exact width and height of your recess; they are rarely square.
Measure the width at the position you plan to fit the blind i.e. at the top of the recess close to the window.
Measure the height at three points, right, left and centre - tell us the shortest measurement.
We will make the necessary allowances to ensure a perfect fit.

If fitting outside of the window recess
We need to know the finished fabric width you require and the finished fabric drop.

Radiators
If you want your blind to stop just above the radiator, measure to the radiator and then deduct 1cm for the finished length.

ROMAN BLIND POSITIONING

The majority of roman blinds are fitted inside the window recess, either with or without curtains.
if you prefer the drape of sateen lined curtains but need the blackout effect consider having a blackout roman blind and cotton sateen lined curtains.

If you wish to fit the blind outside of the recess ensure that the blind extends at least 5cm each side and approximately 10cm above the recess.
Because our roman blinds are supplied with either cords and cleat or a continuous chain side-winder mechanism you have total control of how far up and down your blind goes.

Cord & Cleat / Continuous Chain Side-Winder mechanism
We strongly recommend these be positioned as far away as possible from the cot, bed, or any other furniture that can be climbed on.
It is advisable to tuck the chain up on top of the blind, well out of the reach of children, when not in use.

CARE OF YOUR ROMAN BLIND

Roman blinds should never be washed !  If absolutely necessary they can be dry-cleaned but this will require the removal of the metal base bar and glass fibre rods
Even when dry-cleaned the face fabric and lining can react differently resulting in a puckered or distorted blind, this can rarely be satisfactorily corrected.
All that should be required is a regular vacuuming, 3-4 times a year, using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner.
